Writing
At Hallbrook, our children begin their writing learning in phonics lessons and through Drawing Club. This allows children to begin writing in a fun and engaging way. For more information, please have a look at the website: https://www.canigoandplaynow.com
In Key Stage one, children focus on the fundamentals of learning to write. This includes the grammatical structures that are included in writing and the concept of word class and punctuation. By exposing children to different authors, text types and characters, children will be able to draw upon what they read and use it in their own work. Although children are exposed to the features of different text types, the purpose of the curriculum is to understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction writing.
In Key Stage two, children develop their grammatical understanding to include more complicated features and language in their work. Children also develop their understanding of writing for a different audience and purpose. This requires children to be able to adapt and alter their tone in their work.
In both Key Stages, children follow a specific sequence of immerse, develop, write and evaluation and feedback. This sequence is the same throughout the school but the expectation of children increases as they move through the school.
